Scooter Wheels

Scooter wheels are at the heart of kick scooters.

The design of these wheels is quite an innovation.

These wheels are made of polyurethane and measures 98mm. They make riding on kick scooters a whole lot better than they used to.

However, due to competition, there have been many different types and designs of wheels for the scooter of your choice.

You should know the most common kinds of  scooter wheels and how to maintain them.

Types of Scooter Wheels

There are several popular brands to choose from when you’re out looking for replacement scooter wheels. Each of these wheels will have their own features and characteristics. Before you make your choice, you should at least be aware of the differences so you can decide what’s best for your scooter on your own.

Some of the most popular brands of wheels include metal core wheels, razor wheels, electric wheels, and black wheels. Some of these wheels will come in a variety of colors. If you want a more conservative look then you can just go for black wheels. Some brands and types have different features like LED lights, bearings, and machined aluminum cores. Just remember that each feature of each kind of wheel you find will mean an increase in price.

Changing Scooter Wheels

Even though the wheels of your scooter are designed to be quite sturdy, they will eventually give in to natural wear and tear due to usage. You’ll also notice that you will most like replace the hind wheel first due to the friction whenever you stop your kick scooter. Replacing a wheel from your scooter will not require heavy work nor will it require a lot of tools.

The tools that you will need to replace a broken down wheel are an Allen key or Allen wrench and a flat head screw driver. You will most likely need the five millimeter Allen key though some brands will have you use the bigger ones.

The first step is to loosen the axle of your scooter wheel using the five millimeter Allen key. Once the axle is loose, keep twisting until the bolt comes off. Once the bolt is off you will also need to remove the spacer positioned between the wheel and the bearing. Once you have both these parts removed you can then pull out the old wheel. The next step is to insert the replacement wheel. Next insert the spacer and close it shut using the bolt of the axle. Tighten everything using the Allen key and then you’re set to go.
